Low Income Housing Tax Credits
Finding resources to build affordable housing in Indian Country is like finding a needle in a hay stack, but one program stands out, Low Income Housing Tax Credits. This program to date has helped to build or renovate over 3,500 tribal housing units in tribal communities. CIHAND provides training geared for developing and fostering LIHTC housing experts for your tribe or housing authority. Our training is provided by tribal housing professionals who have expertise and knowledge with all phases of development, and with LIHTC compliance from A to Z. It is a training that truly addresses the "nuts and bolts" of the complex tax credit program.
CIHAND recognizes the need for tribal individuals and communities to become self-reliant, develop wealth and assets, and build community independence, and to assist our communities and tribal members develop financial skills and money know how, CIHAND has developed a financial skill program.
Financial Skill Building
To promote financial educational advancement, CIHAND offers a free financial training program designed for both rural and urban native populations. This specialized hybrid financial skills program will be a major component of the CIHAND CDFI Fund. This program will have several areas such as credit counseling, debt consolidation, developing financial skills and will be operation in early fall of 2010. Currently CIHAND offers a financial program for individuals to obtain pre and post homebuyer education.
